Ok I'll try not to make an intellectual movie review out of Casino Royale which I watched on friday with Junnie, her sister and Chunnie.
SPOILERS ALERT. IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCH IT, YOU SHOULDN'T BE READING THIS.
SO HERE GOES!
Daniel Craig plays the new badass James Bond, who initially acts very much like Vin Diesel style ala All Action, Shoot First Talk Later, Stunts Galore...you get the point. Rather than the typical suave Bond Style. The man is disliked by his superiors for making a mess out of everything and requiring others to clear up the mess for him. For Gamers, he seems more like Serious Sam or Duke Nukem, rather than Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid or Sam Fisher in Splinter Cell.
Casino Royale is a "remake" of one of the first few Bond films, possible From Russia with Love. This show however focuses much on character development rather than a showoff of technological gadgets. It portrays how Bond will become "Bond"-like, which is untrusting, calculative, cool and etc. Thus it will surely lead to more Daniel Craig bond films.
The entire movie doesn't portray much high-tech gadgetry or weapons. No fancy Omega watches with the functions to match a Swiss Army Knife. No weapons that make the impossible possible. Even his Aston Martin doesn't feature much action except for the car crash. Another thing is that everyone in the show is using a Sony Ericsson Phone!
Throughout the show, the plot seems sluggish and doesn't move smoothly. Scene skipping is present. However, this show does seem more realistic as compared to previous Bond films of the 90s probably due to the lack on the reliance of technological devices but more on shear brute force, as examplified by the many brawls that Bond gets into.
Mystery is not really significant in the show, given that all the people around Bond betrayed him, which is so predictable.
One thing about the movie which i really have to complain is that towards the end of the show there are too much love, lovemaking and kissing scenes, at least 10 mins of nothing else but lovey dovey acts between our male and female protagonists, which really bores me to the bone when I'm watching an action movie (if I'm watching a romance movie its a different thing altogether).
Lastly, the ending is just too abrupt. The scriptwriter should have focused less on romanticizing Bond and more on the ending development.
So ends my sucky review of Casino Royale. 7/10.
